Every April 2nd, Autism Speaks celebrates Light It Up Blue! (See last year’s post here.) In honor of those living with autism, families, friends, historic landmarks, and many organizations around the world Light It Up Blue. You too can take part by changing out your porch lights with a blue one. If you aren’t able to Light It Up Blue, you can still help support Autism Speaks by creating awareness on your blog, Facebook, and Twitter, just check out their Tools & Resources page. You can also make a donation to Autism Speaks here or purchase a really awesome Sevenly shirt here!
Mother’s Day is fast approaching and there is no shortage of non-profits supporting the women who brought each and every one of us into this world. From Every Mother Counts No Mother’s Day to Sevenly’s fight against breast cancer with the National Breast Cancer Foundation we are reminded how important mothers are to us.
Here are some ways that you can support your favorite mother, as well as your favorite non-profits
Every Mother Counts – No Mothers Day – Imagine you were never able to meet your mother. Every Mother Counts is creating awareness for women everywhere who die during pregnancy or childbirth. Join celebrities like Debra Messing, Kelly Rutherford and Sheila Kelley in staying silent on Mother’s Day by not accepting gifts, not taking any calls or updating Facebook or Twitter, rather encourage them to donate funds, or purchase gifts that will educate and support girls and women all over the world. Even if you want to celebrate your mother, please watch the video and increase your awareness of women everywhere, some who are never able to celebrate Mother’s Day again.
One World One Ocean – If your mother is an animal lover, consider making a donation in her honor to help polar bear mothers in the Arctic.
Water.org – Honor your mother with Water.org. Your $25 donation provides safe water for life. This water is not only drinking water, but it aids in health, dignity and opportunity for those in developing countries.
Kiva – Is your mom or favorite woman an entrepreneur? Invest in another woman’s future and she will do the rest. You choose a borrower to receive your loan and follow the periodic updates regarding the progress of your loan. Any loan repayments are yours to keep, but you can also consider making another loan, or get someone else involved with a Kiva Card. Also check out Dermalogica’s joinFITE program. With each Dermalogica purchase, you can donate $1 to the joinFITE program aiding in entrepreneurship.
Sevenly – This week Sevenly’s teaming up with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to raise awareness and funds for women for early detection. If breast cancer is detected early in it’s onset, the survival rate increases to almost 100%. Get your mom, or favorite gal Sevenly’s shirt of the week to fight against breast cancer. These shirts are super fashionable and will look great on any of your favorite women. For every $22 – $27 purchase $7 will be donated to NBCF. Don’t forget to check out this touching video!
I know that I always feel a little bit better when proceeds from items I purchase go towards a good cause. Companies like Sevenly and TOMS are already capitalizing on society’s social mindedness and now, OPI is donating a portion of their proceeds to a great cause – City of Hope.
George W. Schaeffer, President and CEO of OPI Products, Inc., is being honored with City of Hope‘s Spirit of Life award for his philanthropic contributions. City of Hope is a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. George established the George W. Schaeffer Endowment for Innovation in Diabetes research and along with OPI is raising funds to aid in the fight against diabetes.
What does buying your favorite OPI polish have to do with it? If you buy Cajun Shrimp, You Don’t Know Jacques, Bubble Bath or Strawberry Margarita, 50 cents of your purchase will be donated to the City of Hope.
To learn more, please check out City of Hope on Facebook and Twitter! Don’t forget to follow OPI as well for updates on their latest collections. You can donate today by texting “GiveHope” ($10) or “GiveLove” ($5) to 27722 and join George and OPI fund research for new treatments and along with City of Hope, finding a CURE for diabetes!
Don’t forget to pick up one (or all) of these best-selling polishes at your favorite Ulta location!
