Make a Change

Music plays such a large role in my life and I often connect memories to certain songs.  “Don’t Stop Believin'” to my college years, “Ignition (Remix)” by R-Kelly to some of my favorite times with my best friends from high school, and most recently, “Man In The Mirror” by Michael Jackson.  Not only is MJ one of my favorite artists, but there are some awesome messages in many of his songs.

Yesterday I was shuffling through my the music on my iPhone and came across this song.  The lyrics hit me like never before.  Don’t get me wrong, this has been one of my favorite songs since I can remember, but this time was different.  It had so much more to do with the chapter of my life I am in right now.  I want to make a change and a difference in our world.

I’m starting with the man in the mirror

I’m asking him to change his ways

And no message could have been clearer

If you wanna make the world a better place

take a look at yourself and then make a change.

At that point, I realized what I had done by creating CharitableConnections.  I took a good hard look at myself, and decided that I wanted to make a change.  I wanted to connect young professionals to the causes they believe in.  I wanted to challenge other young men and women, just like me, to take a look in the mirror, and change.  There is so much we can do to make the world a better place, but we have to start with ourselves.  We have to make the conscious effort to buy local, to be green, to exercise our right to vote, to support local, national, and international causes, that make the world a better place for others.

This is just an example of how music inspires me everyday.  What inspires you to change?  What causes do you want to fight for?  And, how do you want to fight for them?

My co-founder and I are always looking for suggestions to support our next cause.  What charity or foundation do you want to support?  How do you want to support them?  Do you want to establish a walk/run?  Do you want to throw a concert or party for the cause?  Will you buy an awesome t-shirt where all proceeds go to your cause of choice?

Let us know how you will be willing to support these (and other) causes and we will do our best to get you connected!
