Weekend Recap

Despite a chilly start, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s was outstanding!  Z102.9’s Overnight Kim started off the walk with three very inspiring stories from two young Alzheimer’s supporters, a woman who’s husband passed away from Alzheimer’s and a beautiful story about a woman who is her husband’s caretaker.

After registering everyone was given a flower in one of four colors.  Blue if you have Alzheimer’s, purple if you know someone with Alzheimer’s, yellow if you are a caretaker of someone with Alzheimer’s and orange if you support the cause.  While participants were walking, those flowers were used for a very beautiful display at the Promise Garden when we returned.

Here is a look at Saturday’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Cedar Rapids:

Marion – East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club

Today I had the honor of presenting at the Marion – East Cedar Rapids Rotary club.  To be completely honest, I did not know much about Rotary before I was invited to speak with their group early this Spring.  In addition to the Rotary club members, today’s meeting was attended by college students who were involved in a Cedar Rapids young leadership group who were learning about various organizations in the Cedar Rapids area.  Since there were quite a few new faces in attendance, the president, Nick Glew, gave a high level overview of Rotary International and how local Rotary clubs service our community.

Here is a video explaining what Rotary International is and what their mission is across the world:

This is a great organization and I am honored that I was able to share CharitableConnections with their members, as well as the guests in attendance at today’s meeting.  Please consider reaching out to your local Rotary clubs to find out how they play a role in your community.

HUGE Thanks – March of Dimes

Today was the March of Dimes’ March for Babies in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and it was a great success!  Despite cold, cloudy weather, thousands showed up to the event.  Team CharitableConnections raised over $450, with more donations still being tallied into our final number.  Our goal was $300 for our first event, so we were very overwhelmed with the generosity of family and friends when we found out that we raised more funds than expected.  This will definitely become an annual event for us.  Here are some photos taken during today’s event:

Again, we just want to send a HUGE thank you to all of those that participated, donated and supported this event!  It was great catching up with friends and meeting new ones!  March of Dimes is still raising money for this VERY worthy cause.  Read about March of Dimes here and here. Please consider contributing if you haven’t already.  See you at the next event!  Details to follow SOON!

Editor’s Note: Team CharitableConnections raised $615 for March of Dimes!  Amazing.  I couldn’t be more proud of our team for exceeding all of my expectations and doubling our goal.  Again, thank you to all of you who supported our team and those who participated in the Walk for Babies all over the US.

Your Support Helps Babies

In 11 short days, Team CharitableConnections will be walking in the March for Babies in Cedar Rapids.  As we posted earlier the March of Dimes raises money for premature births and complications that can arise from having babies too soon.  As the donations have started rolling in, I thought it might be nice to see where the funds go.  Please visit our team page if you would like to make a donation or join us in Cedar Rapids for the March for Babies on April 29th!
